Tirsa Alvira, daughter of Rebecca and William E. Truax was born in Monroe county, Ohio, Nov. 12, 1861; departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Childers, near Enfield, Ill., March 30, 1924. She was the youngest of eleven children. She was married April 22, 1879 to George R. Downen of Gallatin co., Ill. To this union was born 11 children, 5 having preceded her in death. Those surviving are Mrs. Frank Childers, Mrs. Joe Mobley, Riley of Iowa, Elias, Mrs. Elza Wilson, and Mrs. Sylvester Weasel.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, being baptized by her own father about 50 years ago in White county, Ill. She has been a true and faithful Christian ever since.

She was a kind and loving mother, and a devoted wife, and her friends can be numbered by her acquaintances.

She leaves to mourn a husband, 3 sisters, Mrs. Barbara Evans and Nancy Parkhurst, of Hamilton co., Ill., and Susan M. Devaul of Monroe co, Ohio, 6 children, 18 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson.

Short funeral services were held at the Childers home April 1st, conducted by Eld. E.C. Kello of Carmi. Interment at Plainview, Tuesday, April 2nd.

George R. Downen passed away at 4 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Elza Wilson and family of the Modoc vicinity at the age of 89. Uncle George, as he was familiarly known, had been in poor health for quite some time.

The Turner Funeral Home in Norris City was notified of his death and called for the body and prepared it for burial and was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elias Downen of the Plainview vicinity near New Haven. There it lay in state until Tuesday at 11 o'clock a.m. when the funeral was conducted from the Plainview Church by Rev. Edmund Knight of near Norris City. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Turner Funeral Home of Norris City.
