New turf is installed for the start of the season.  The new turf has a much richer color making it easier to see the ball.  Also, a new pitching mound was added that could be hydraulically lowered below field level for non-baseball events.

Willie McGee hits for the cycle on June 23rd.  (He's the only Cardinal to hit for the cycle in the 80s.)

On July 18th, Darrell Porter hits a 2 out, 11th inning,  walk-off grand-slam home run to beat the Giants.

The team swipes 220 bases to break a club record set just the year before.

Joaquin Andujar is the Cardinals first 20-game winner since 1977.

Bruce Sutter set the NL record for saves in a season (45).  Rookie Terry Pendleton hit .324 after joining the club in July.

Terry Pendleton made his major league debut on July 18th with a three hit game.
