- Bob Gibson is elected to the HOF (Bio)

Highlights:

The Cards finish 2nd in each half of the split season caused by a players strike.  The Cards have best NL East record overall, but miss the playoffs.

Bruce Sutter, in his first year with the Cards, was the NL’s top reliever, winning the Rolaids Relief Man award.

David Green becomes the first Nicaraguan-born player to play for the Cards. (Sept.4th)

The game on Easter Sunday (4/19) was snowed out!  It was also visor day.  We stayed at the ballpark long enough to get our visors!

Keith Hernandez becomes Tom Seaver's 3,000th strikeout victim. (4/18)

In October, the Cardinals trade Bob Sykes to the Yankees for little known minor leaguer Willie McGee.  At the time Willie was most likely going to end up at Louisville to start the 1982 season.

In December, the Cards complete a trade with San Diego that brings Ozzie Smith to the team.
