MLB Videos:

- Gibson strikes out 17 in Game 1 of the 68 WS

Highlights:

At the start of the season the centerfield wall was painted dark green to provide a better visual background for batters.  The remainder of the wall is still gray.

In June, an additional protective screen behind home plate is added, but the football Cardinals say the screen is too hard to see through during the day.  The additional screen is removed in Sept. prior to the football season.

On August 4th, the Stan Musial statue is unveiled.

On September 17th, Gaylord Perry of the Giants no-hit the Cards.  One day later, Cards pitcher Ray Washburn returnd the favor!

Lou Brock leads the NL in doubles (46) and triples (14) and steals (62).

On June 2nd, Bob Gibson begins a streak of 48 2/3 connsecutive shutout innings.

Denny McLain (Tigers) and Bob Gibson both earn MVP honors, the first time two pitchers win the award in the same year.

Dal Maxvill becomes the first Cardinal shortstop to win a Gold Glove.

In the World Series, Lou Brock stole 7 bases to match the World Series record he set in the 1967 World Series!

Bob Gibson's 13 shutouts this year are the most in the majors in 50 years!

Bob Gibson is the NL MVP!!!

Bob Gibson wins the NL Cy Young!!!
